The concept of After School Programs dates back
to as early as the last quarter of the 19th century in the United
States of America. After School Programs has been used as an intervention on
various national and international disruptions and challenges across the world
in the past. Primarily the programs are viewed as a positive pass time activities
for children especially during unsupervised periods between the last school
bell and the time when parents arrive home.
The After-School Program has potential to:
- Improve the participants academic performance
- Mould their attitude towards schooling in general and mathematics and science education in particular
- Intervene on various social ills that include but are not limited to drug abuse; teenage pregnancy; school drop-out; bullying
